Wanda Reyes began her journey at Cooper Dual Language Academy in 1998 as a third grade teacher. Since then she has had the opportunity to teach kindergarten, first grade and fifth grade. During her eighteen years of working with Chicago Public Schools, her teaching experience has expanded from kindergarten to sixth grade. She has also had the chance to take on the role of a literacy coach, which has broadened her knowledge of curriculum, data analysis, professional development, and individualized supports for students in Spanish and in English for grades K-5. Her current position is the literacy coach for grades third to fifth, and she is also the Bilingual Lead Teacher for the 2015-2016 school year. Mrs. Reyes achieved National Board Certification in the fall of 2008. She received her certificate in Early to Middle Childhood Literacy/Reading Language Arts. This experience was a pivotal point in her teaching career in validating her talents as an educator. It also emphasized the importance of establishing and maintaining strong relationships with parents. She is a member of the Local School Council and facilitates the parent committees of the Bilingual Advisory Committee and the NCLB/Title 1 committee.
Mrs. Reyes was a student and a graduate of Chicago Public Schools. Her collegiate education began at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan where she earned her Bachelors of Arts Degree in Communication. She has the following endorsements in bilingual, ESL, reading specialist and reading teacher. She earned her bilingual and ESL endorsement at the University of Illinois at Chicago. She earned her Masters of Arts Degree in Reading at Northeastern Illinois University. Since Mrs. Reyes began her teaching career she has always believed that in order to grow professionally we have to continue to educate ourselves. In her leisure time, Mrs. Reyes loves to cook, practice her Yoga, spend time with her family, and watch movies.
