Phillip Olazaba joined the Cooper Dual Language Academy staff in 2011 as a Pre-K to 5 music teacher. This is his fifth year as a teacher at Cooper, and for Chicago Public Schools. Mr. Olazaba believes that every student deserves a music education and is committed to the relentless pursuit of excellence for Cooper Dual Language Academy. He believes that every student should have the opportunity to listen, play and create music.
Mr. Olazaba earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education at VanderCook College of Music. He is the instructor of the Orozco Mariachi, Cooper Mariachi and Lead Instructor of The Chicago Mariachi Project, a non-for-profit that focuses on elevating the art of mariachi. Mr. Olazaba also has the honor of representing his colleagues as a Delegate for the Chicago Teacher Union. In his free time, Mr. Olazaba loves playing Basketball, and practicing the harp.
