Alfredo Calderon was born and raised in Chicago. He attended and graduated from Cooper Elementary School. Mr. Calderon received his Bachelor’s Degree in Speech Communications from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Illinois at Chicago. After graduating from college, he decided to return to his former elementary school to give back to his school and community. He began his teaching career at Cooper in 1998 as a fourth grade teacher. He continues to teach Cooper, currently teaching fifth grade Math and Language Arts. In addition to his work with students in the classroom, he has been a member of the Local School Council as a teacher representative. He also attends professional development and workshops to improve instructional practices in the classroom. Mr. Calderon believes that every student is able to learn and succeed by creating a classroom environment that is enjoyable, inspiring, and challenging. His goal is to guide and motivate students to becoming lifelong learners and to make the impossible possible. In his spare time, Mr. Calderon enjoys playing and watching sports, traveling and spending time with his family.
